Rule of thumb: If you are going to need/have multiple elements with the same identifier, use class rather than id instead. ID's should be unique within a page. Otherwise you will get varying issues depending on what you are doing or what browser you are using. Just because you can make everything an ID and similar doesnt mean its the proper practice.

Modified for classes (if the element has a class of green)
$('[class='green']')
$(".green")
